exactly...don't think the reward in gw:en chests is worth the expense...regular keys need to be introduced. I've gotten golds to drop from chests in explorable areas...and especially in dungeons (not talking about the end chest)....being that it is "Normal Mode"...it's normal to get lots of purples.

I don't know I find you get worse drops in hard mode...gee a book that allows me to learn any monknon elite skill I've unlocked...wait...I can just go buy it from any vendor WOW!
|
Only place I've gotten Regular tomes from is regular enemies (and an occasional boss) in hard mode...Chests always drop elite tomes for me.

What strikes me as really weird, ATM, is that on the 2 occassions I've opened chests *outside* of GW:EN, the gold drop rate has seemed really high.
A day before the GW:EN launch, I took my ranger (the same character I'm using in GW:EN) to Perdition Rock to pick up Volcanic rocks. I opened 5 chests along the way and 3 gave up gold.
Yesterday I took my monk through the Nahpui Quarter mission and opened a few canthan chests - 3 gold/one purple. An R9 celestial axe even dropped in a fight (unfortunately not quite max damage).
Yet drops in GW:EN are very so-so. I open almost every chest I encounter and barely receive enough gold to keep me interested. I really hope they buff the drops a bit, or maybe consider a triple weekend, before I run out of cash.

I went throught the the Cathedral of Flames last night doing the Temple of the Damned mission.
I think Gron Fierceclaws intel on the "Ascalonian Treasure" is totaly incorrect, every chest I opened contained a purple weapon worth around 150 gold and didn't retain a single pick. The gold i recieved from selling the whites and dropped gold didn't total more than the cost of another two lock picks!
Temple of the Damned seems to be a well deserved name

Sounds like you're falling for the gambler's fallacy...each chance is independent of all the rest. I know that it seems highly unlikely that you'll fail 5, 10, 20.....even 100 times in a row, but technically it is possible.
More on topic I have about a 47% or some such chance and on average I save about 1 out of every 3 lockpicks I use in then EotN area's.

Question:
Since there are only locked chests in GW:EN, why do lockpicks not drop anywhere in GW:EN?
Anyone else think this sucks? Kind of unfair if you ask me...

Gave it a trial run and came very close to my listed percentage. Was a bit worried when it started with 6 losses in a row, but later I got 4 retains in a row. Averaged about 40%, should have 43%, but given sample size that's pretty good.

It's not the fact that their not functioning it's the fact it's in normal mode.
I've had crappy luck but honestly we're paying for lockpicks (1.5k each) that have a chance to break (60% on default). For normal mode items... purples with bad skins on them.
They should replace those chests with regular chests with specific keys to them and have Hard Mode with the lockpick chests with better loot.

I agree with this. I also hate that we are forced to use lockpicks in normal mode.
I have a 58% retention rate, and break 3 out 5 on average. That's with 100 lockpicks so far. This is in Eye of the North. My retention rate seemed to me to work much better in Factions.
Maybe I have bad luck that lasts forever and ever, because I haven't been able to shake it yet.

I have times when its really bad and other times its really good. Like one time i have 10 lockpicks and opened up 8 chest and only lost 2 so thats pretty good. I got a few golds there two so i wasnt complaining. Other times ill open 10 chests lose all my picks and get all grapes too, its just the way it goes.

Yeah that made no sense to me at all, unless the loot gets better in HM why would they stay the same? And it should be noted that the loot doesnt get better either.

Just last week I bought 25 lockpicks. At a 44% retention rate, I broke 14 in a row, on the fifteenth I retained, now here is where it gets stupid...the fifteenth I retained for three chests, then broke five more in a row. 20 lockpicks down, all 23 drops were purples. My brothers witnessed it. I have a calculated retention rate of 6.666 (repeating of course) percent. I have a gold drop percentage of 1/21...or 4.5%. This is only my opinion, but it's broken, like my lockpicks.

Nothing broken - working teh same it always has. I used lockpicks for the last 6500 chest for the title. They worked fine and they always did. You get runs of about 14 successes and the worst run of failures U had is 21. Grapes are very comon in EOTN normal mode, but you can get similar poor runs in Ice Floe and Mirror of Lyss. There is a high number of chests avialable in the snowman dungeon pertime it takes, but with the monsters being low level I find this area has more than its share of grapes.
Basic message - everyone gets a run where they feel persecuted by bad luck and think things are broken. Its a VICTIM syndrome - get over it, it's not the game .

If you want to do statistics, do them from r2 to r3 (for example), compare with rentention rate, do it again with r3 to r4, compare.
